Settings overview
Settings is the hub for everything you configure about your organisation: its details, how it does its bookkeeping, its billing account, and your own profile. This guide explains what each area does and where to go next.
Before you begin
- You need to be signed in with an organisation selected.
- Open Settings from the left-hand menu (under the Settings heading, choose Settings). You will see a page of cards, one for each area you can configure.
What each area does
Organization details Your company name, contact details, business type, VAT registration, functional currency, invoice template, default payment instructions, and your locations. See Edit your organisation details, VAT registration and territory, Set your functional currency and Payment instructions on documents.
Accounting settings The ledger accounts Sales Scribe uses for each bookkeeping role — receivables, payables, VAT, foreign exchange, and the default accounts for products. See Configure your Accounting Settings and Set your default product accounts.
Chart of Accounts The full list of ledger accounts your invoices, payments and journals post to. See Understand the Chart of Accounts and Add or edit a ledger account.
Bank Accounts Your real-world bank, credit-card and cash accounts, each backed by a ledger account, with statement import and reconciliation. See Set up bank accounts.
Payment Methods The ways money moves (bank transfer, cash, card…), each linked to the bank account it posts to. See Manage payment methods.
Invoice design The template, logo, font and brand colours used on your invoices and credit notes. (Covered in the templates and branding guides.)
If your organisation belongs to a billing account, you will also see cards for Billing account overview, Plan & upgrades, Members & Seats and Invitations, plus Profile & security for your own personal details, email, password and two-factor authentication. The account overview also has a Billing page: the next invoice as it stands today and every invoice raised so far, each line named for what it pays for (your own plan, or a client organisation your practice sponsors), with links to the itemised invoice and PDF.
Related settings that live elsewhere
A few settings-like areas are reached from other parts of the menu rather than the Settings hub:
- FX Rates — a read-only list of stored exchange rates — is under the Payments heading. See Manage exchange rates.
- Categories — product categories and their ledger-account mappings — is under the Catalog heading, next to Products. See Product categories.
Some settings are prepared for you automatically and have no editing page in this version — see Manage tax rates and Document numbering.
Important notes
Note: Everything under Settings applies to the organisation you currently have selected. If you run more than one organisation, switch to the right one first using the organisation switcher, then open Settings.
