Void a draft payment

If you started a payment but no longer want it, you can void it — as long as it is still a Draft. Voiding cancels the payment before it reaches your accounts. Once a payment has been posted you can no longer void it; you reverse it instead.

Before you begin

Void from the payment

  1. Go to Payments → Customer Payments and open the draft payment.
  2. Select Void.
  3. In Reason for voiding, enter why you are cancelling it (this is required).
  4. Confirm with Void Payment.

The payment's status changes to Voided. This cannot be undone, but the record is kept for your history.

Delete a draft payment from an invoice

If you recorded a payment directly on an invoice and it is still a draft, you can remove it from the invoice's Payments list using the delete (trash) control on that payment's row. As with voiding, only a payment that has not been posted can be deleted.

What happens next

  • The draft payment is cancelled and no longer counts towards anything.
  • There is no accounting effect. A draft never entered your books, so voiding it changes nothing in your ledger or reports.
  • If the payment had been linked to a customer or invoice, those links are cleared.

Important notes

Warning: You can only void a Draft payment. A Posted payment cannot be voided or deleted — it must be reversed so that an equal and opposite entry is recorded. See Refund or reverse a payment.

  • Voiding requires a reason and is final. If you might need the payment again, edit it instead of voiding it (drafts can be edited freely).

Troubleshooting

  • The Void button isn't there. The payment is not a draft — it has already been posted. Reverse it instead.
  • "This payment has been posted, so it can no longer be voided" (or edited, or deleted). The payment is posted. Use a reversal rather than trying to void or delete it.
  • "Void reason is required." Enter a reason before confirming.
