Switch between organisations
If your billing account contains more than one Organization, you work in one organisation at a time. The organisation switcher in the top bar lets you move between them. Everything you see — invoices, customers, reports — belongs to the organisation you are currently in.
Before you begin
- You need access to more than one organisation for switching to be useful. (One billing account can hold several organisations.)
- The switcher shows the organisation you are currently working in.
Switch organisation
On a desktop screen:
- In the top bar, select the context switcher — the button showing your current organisation's name.
- Under the Organization heading, select the organisation you want to work in.
The page reloads into that organisation's books. The same dropdown also has a Billing account section for switching accounts.
On a small screen, open the menu with the button at the top left, then use the Organization dropdown near the top.
When the switcher is disabled
Sometimes the switcher shows your current organisation but will not let you change it. This happens on pages where switching part-way through would not make sense — for example while you are creating, editing or viewing a specific document (such as a delivery note or a supplier payment), or on a customer's Account page.
When this happens the switcher is greyed out and shows a short reason, such as "Cannot switch organizations while editing …". Finish or leave the page, and the switcher becomes available again.
Note: Platform administrators do not see the organisation switcher, because they work in a separate administration area.
What happens next
After you switch, the whole application — the dashboard, menus, lists and reports — reflects the organisation you moved into. Your choice is remembered, so you stay in that organisation until you switch again.
Troubleshooting
- I only see one organisation. You currently belong to just one. Create another from Settings → Organization (subject to your plan's organisation limit), or switch billing account if the other organisation is under a different account.
- The switcher is greyed out. You are on a page that locks the current organisation. Leave the page and try again.
- I want a different billing account, not a different organisation. Use the Billing account section of the same dropdown, or Switch Account. See Organisations and billing accounts.
