Online payment availability
This article sets out, plainly, how your customers pay an invoice in this version of Sales Scribe.
Online card payment is available — once you connect Stripe
Customers can pay invoices online by card, on Stripe's secure hosted checkout, with the money settling into your own Stripe account. To offer it, an owner or admin connects your Stripe account under Settings → Online payments — the full walkthrough is in Take online card payments.
While your organisation is connected:
- Emailed invoices carry a Pay button as well as the view link.
- The customer pays on Stripe's checkout page (their card details never touch Sales Scribe), returns to the invoice, and sees Payment received once the money is confirmed.
- The invoice is marked paid, the accounting posts automatically, and the customer gets a payment receipt by email.
Online payment is offered on issued invoices with an outstanding balance, for the full outstanding amount.
If you haven't connected Stripe
Invoices work exactly as before: emails include a link to view the invoice but no Pay button, and your customer pays using the bank details or payment instructions shown on the invoice — you then record the payment when it arrives.
If a customer reaches an old pay link while online payment isn't available, they see a clear message and a View invoice button rather than a payment form.
Make sure customers know how to pay
Whether or not you take card payments, include your bank details or payment instructions on your invoices so customers always have a way to pay. Your organisation can set default payment instructions that appear on every invoice.
