The set-up checklist
Once your organisation exists, a little set-up makes everything afterwards run smoothly — correct tax, the right home currency, and your customers and products ready to pick from. This checklist puts the steps in a sensible order and links each one to its full guide.
Before you begin
- You need a default organisation with an address. If you have not done this yet, start with Create your account and first organisation.
- Most settings below live under Settings in the left-hand menu.
The recommended order
Work down the list. You can revisit any step later — nothing here is permanent.
Check your organisation details. Confirm your business name, contact details and default invoice template. → Edit your organisation details
Set your VAT registration. Tell Sales Scribe whether you are VAT registered and, in the UK, your VAT territory. This controls how VAT appears on documents. → VAT registration and territory
Set up your tax rates. Add the tax rates you charge (for example Standard 20%) so they are ready to pick on invoice and purchase lines. → Manage tax rates
Check your functional currency. Your organisation keeps its books in one home currency, which you confirmed when you created it and which cannot be changed. If it is wrong, create the organisation again with the right currency before you record anything — all your reports use it. → Set your functional currency
Review your Chart of Accounts and Accounting Settings. Sales Scribe creates a starter Chart of Accounts for you. Skim it, then check Accounting Settings so the app knows which account to use for each bookkeeping role (such as the VAT and rounding accounts). → Understand the Chart of Accounts → Configure Accounting Settings
Moving from another system? Bring your balances and your unpaid invoices and bills across as your opening position before you start trading here, so your reports carry on from where your old books left off. → Move your books to Sales Scribe
Add your customers. Enter the people and businesses you sell to, or add them as you go. → Add a customer
Add your products and services. Set up the items you sell so you can add them to invoices in one click. (This is optional — you can also type free-text lines on an invoice.) → Add a product or service
Create your first invoice. You are ready to raise and issue your first sales invoice. → Create a sales invoice
Tip: Prefer to learn by doing? Create the sample company and click through invoices, payments and reports that are already set up, then delete it when you are done.
What happens next
Your Dashboard shows a Getting started checklist (add a customer, add a product, create your first invoice) until you have created invoices. Once you issue your first invoice, the checklist is replaced by your live figures.
